Professional Advocacy

Collaboration between industry and medicine is under increasing scrutiny, yet many academicians, clinicians, and industry professionals agree that this collaboration—when conducted appropriately and with the best interest of the patient in mind—is an integral factor in the development of new treatments and therapies.

The Advocacy Advantage philosophy: “Cost-effective collaborative projects can be developed without harmful conflict of interest, but they must be carried out with vigilance and transparency—and always with the patient in mind.  Using a qualified liaison who fully understands universal, as well as organization-specific, guidelines, reduces risk and cost, while creating a win-win situation for both parties—and ultimately, better health for the patient.”

Patient Advocacy

The amount of time physicians are able to spend with patients can be frustratingly short for both parties.  Doctors often feel they don’t have enough time to devote to patient education and patients often leave the doctor’s office with unanswered questions.  Patient advocacy groups work to fill this educational gap but they are often underfunded and can be inexperienced in working with corporate partners.  Corporate partners, on the other hand, may not understand the importance and value of patient advocacy initiatives.

The Advocacy Advantage philosophy:“We believe that industry has a responsibility to the public to develop or support non-branded disease state awareness and that these type of initiatives are not cost-prohibitive.  With an experienced guide, compliant and productive relationships between industry and patient advocacy organizations can be created and maintained.”

Internal Advocacy

Successful industry employees are genuinely passionate about the products they sell, the science they introduce, and, most importantly, the company they represent.  Employees, however, can’t advocate for products they don’t fully understand, concepts they can’t articulate, or a company to which they don’t feel connected.

The Advocacy Advantage philosophy: “People thrive when they work for more than just a paycheck.  Most want to know they are involved in something meaningful, want to be seen as experts on their products and they want to understand and trust the logic behind what they are being asked to do.  A skilled consultant can help an organization build and maintain internal advocacy that results in better retention rates, more productive employees, and a management team that is not distracted by personnel issues that could have been avoided.”
